It’s been a long time coming, but Carrick Classic Lanes – a former Pittsburgh bowling alley featured in the film Kingpin – is being readied to come back to life next year. Constructed in 1929 as Stanley Parlors, the building first had two floors of duckpin bowling and was converted into a traditional 10-pin bowling alley in 1961 (pictured at right), according to TribLive. AMI Entertainment’s service school brings many new tools to operators for improved jukebox performance and management, the company says. It’s enhanced Co-Pilot app helps them get things done on-the-go. The service school has been around for several years, but recent developments have increased involvement, AMI said in a press release. They shared operator success stories including one from Jim Ryan of Amusements Unlimited in Olean, N.Y., who downloaded the app while working with an AMI rep. “The operator saw several of his jukeboxes were turned off,” AMI wrote in the press release. “After turning the first one on, he continued…
Laser tag players can now take on giant animated opponents appearing around the arena with LaserBlast’s brand-new themed interactive targets. According to a recent press release, there are several pre-built themes like sci-fi, dinosaurs, zombies and jungle. Customized videos are also available to fit an arena’s style. “Imagine an 8-foot star cruiser flying by for a strafing run, a T-rex charging or a zombie groaning as it lunges forward,” LaserBlast says. “Switch from a kid-friendly spaceship for your morning parties to a scarier zombie attacker at night using a simple drop-down menu.” The Michigan-based company can be reached at www.laserblast.com.
White Rose Bar & Grill is a restaurant in downtown York, Pa., that’s been open since 1933. Next week, after 80-plus years in business, owners are opening White Rose at Bridgewater – a restaurant with an arcade and 9-hole golf course. Last week, the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the recently-opened Quarters Bar+Arcade with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The owners, Luke and Emily Kunselman, were there to showcase the business’ drinks and games, according to the Longmont Observer. Quarters has 20 self-serve taps with 15 beers, three ciders and two wines. Games include two Skee-Balllanes, pinballs, a claw machine and 12 other arcade games, which are operated on a wrist band system. Usually, our location news revolves around renovations and openings, but this one’s about a closure. According to The Morning Call, Revolutions at Saucon Valley, a 40,000-sq.-ft. facility featuring a bowling alley, arcade, restaurant and more, closed this past weekend. The Lower Saucon Township, Penn., location was in business for six years and didn’t give any reasons as to why they closed. Frank Entertainment, the movie theater and family entertainment chain that owned it, couldn’t be reached for comment either. At the April 24-May 5 Tribeca Film Festival in New York, attendees will be transported to 10,000 BC with a virtual reality experience from the NYU Future Reality Lab. CAVE, co-created by Ken Perlin, Kris Layng and Sebastian Herscher, will take viewers back thousands of years, “when stories were told around a campfire and the history of our ancestors was written on the walls of caves.” The film was designed to challenge the status quo of how audiences experience immersive arts and entertainment.
Valve, known for its shooting games like Half-Life and Portal, is officially in the VR headset market after it verified a leak of its upcoming product. According to CNET, the game maker recently confirmed it’s going to start preorders for the Valve Index headset May 1 and that the product is due to ship June 15. It’ll be sold alongside the company’s new “knuckles” controllers, which they say allows for better control of VR games and apps.
