With about two dozen classic arcade games, a new retro arcade bar recently opened in Hyannis, Mass., along the Cape Cod city’s Main Street. Flashback Arcade + Bar features Tetris, Guitar Hero, Mortal Kombat II, Super Mario Brothers, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and many more now-classic video games ranging from the 1970s through the early 2000s. Independent game maker BumbleBear, led by Tomás Vicuña, celebrated the launch of their video game Black Emperor with parties March 15 at Logan Arcade in Chicago and Secret Project Robot, an art gallery in New York, according to Arcade Heroes. The game was “inspired by Japanese psychedelic music and bosozoku motorcycle culture.” The Brooklyn-based BumbleBear bills itself as “vanguards of the new arcade,” and its latest game utilizes the idea of an endless side scrolling runner to a motorcycle driver. Held from March 6-8 in Mumbai, India, the IAAPI Amusement Expo is the 19th trade show from the association, and by all accounts it continues to grow and improve. InterGame reported on past shortcomings of the event, but noted that operators have recognized change. “The show is surely developing and has improved over the last year in terms of layout, organization and number of exhibitors,” said Prakash Vivekanand, managing director at ASI in Dubai. Payment Alliance International (PAI), which is considered to be the nation’s largest privately held ATM provider with over 75,000 of the units, has been bought by Further Global Capital Management, a private equity firm focused on the financial services industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. David Dove now joins PAI as CEO. Thousands of pinball enthusiasts and die-hards excitedly strolled through Banning, Calif. this past weekend for Arcade Expo 5.0, held at the Museum of Pinball. The museum features 1,100 pinball machines and video games – from retro pins like Surfers (1967) by Bally to the newest selection from Jersey Jack, Stern and independent pin makers. Arcades in North America are beginning to get the video arcade game Fantasy Soccer from Universal Space (UNIS), which first unveiled the title last September. According to Arcade Heroes, its cabinet design includes large joysticks and kickable soccer balls at the feet, similar to the features of a previous soccer video game, World Kicks. On the other hand, Fantasy Socceris able to incorporate modern technology like linking cabinets for up to eight players, including player cameras and featuring two HD monitors with LED lighting surrounding the machine.
