Biz Bits: Mind-Controlled VR Makes Waves

The first ever mind-controlled VR game, Awakening by Neurable, is scheduled to hit arcades sometime this year. (Photo to the right courtesy of Neurable.)

“We’ve essentially created a brain mouse,” Ramses Alcaide, the company’s cofounder and CEO told IEEE Spectrum.

Awakening allows you to play as a character who is trapped in a nefarious government lab. You’re able to virtually scan the room for clues on how to get out. A brain-scanning headband that attaches to a VR headset is what makes the game possible. The headband is paired with software that interprets neural signals, enabling wearers to play the game without using any hand controllers.
