Jersey Jack Pinball has added legendary pinball designer Steve Ritchie to its growing team of designers. The factory spread the news through a post to PRNewswire in which they note that his career, which spans 47 years in the industry, started in 1974 with Atari. National Bowling Day is Aug. 14 – the perfect day for a return of bowling at the new Fairway Lanes Bar and Grill in Centralia, Washington. According to the Centralia Chronicle, the new owners of the facility made the announcement on their Facebook page. “We’re pretty much ready,” said Jeff and Julie Walker. “We’re very excited about this. ESPN’s annual “The Ocho” programming will feature an air hockey tournament this Friday, Aug. 6. Gold Standard Games sponsored the ESPN Invitational event, which took place July 24-25 in Houston. The Ocho is a “showcase for little-known sports played at a high level, including coin-op sports such as air hockey, foosball and pinball.” Top-ranked players from around the world participated on USAA-sanctioned Tournament Ice commercial-grade tables from Gold Standard Games, which were used for all the final matches. The event will be aired on ESPN2 from 3-3:30 p.m. Eastern time.

One viral claim recently suggested that comedian Dave Chappelle and rapper Busta Rhymes were the namesakes behind Dave & Buster’s. Snopes dismissed the claim, humorously saying “Dave Chappelle and Busta Rhymes may or may not have stepped inside a Dave & Buster’s before, at which point someone may have inevitably made this rather weak joke.” They also corrected the claim, noting that the chain was indeed founded by duo David Corriveau and James “Buster” Corley.
Deadline has reported that a movie based on the true story of writer and pinball wizard Roger Sharpe is in the works. Called Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, Joel Courtney and Crystal Reed have signed on to star in the film. The dramatic comedy will be produced by MPI Original Films and chronicles Sharpe’s journey to overturn New York City’s 35-year ban on pinball. Grand Station Entertainment, located in College Station, Texas, recently hosted a group from Avocation Therapy, a business offering home and community based recreational therapy. The bowling center accommodated the group by opening earlier, lowering the music and adjusting the lighting, reported KXXV. Alex Chizum, who has autism, was among those in attendance.
