IAAPA’s April Advocacy Days Result in 56 Congressional Meetings

IAAPA held their annual U.S. Advocacy Days from April 11 to 13 allowed for discussions industry leaders representing 25 organizations to participate in 56 congressional meetings in D.C. According to the organization, this historic high – both in number of meetings and participating attendees – led to important discussions on regulatory issues in the industry. 

 The members met with offices representing 14 states to discuss proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act, overtime rules, industry safety, unmanned aircraft systems (drones) legislation and possible changes to Federal and state minimum wage requirements. Dr. Chad Moutray, the National Association of Manufacturer’s chief economist, also provided expert analysis on the global economy, noting that within the industry job openings are at an all-time high and that the service sector is making a comeback.

Representatives from IAAPA came from many all over the country: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and the District of Columbia.

“We are incredibly proud of what we were able to achieve as an industry this week on Capitol Hill,” said Randy Davis, IAAPA Senior Vice President of Safety and Advocacy. “The record number of meetings with Congressional leaders from both parties is a testament to the strength of the attractions industry when we come together to work toward a common goal.”
