In a bittersweet illustration of the enormous popularity of Prince Rogers Nelson, TouchTunes revealed that the top-played song on their network the day of the artist’s death (yesterday, April 21) was Purple Rain.
Over the years, Prince sold more than 100 million records and won seven Grammy Awards, making him one of the most successful musicians of all time. The icon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year he was eligible.
According to TouchTunes, thousands of fans paid tribute to the loss by queuing up Purple Rain on their local jukes. May he rest in peace.
