Big Buck World Championship XV was held at Joe’s Live in Rosemont, Ill., from Oct. 14-15, and for the first time ever, the first-place winner will have to convert the big $20,000 check into Aussie dollars. Australian Will Bromley is this year’s champ and new owner of the Pappy’s Jug trophy. Creative Works celebrated their 25th anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 10 for their brand-new 68,000-sq.-ft. production facility in Indianapolis, Ind. The new building includes equipment and machinery that will increase their capabilities, allowing them to product immersive attractions more quickly. The former GameWorks facility in Las Vegas is reopening as Velocity Esports. The grand opening is Oct. 21, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The 36,000-sq.-ft. space includes an esports lounge, arcade and more. Velocity Esports launched late last year by Philip Kaplan, Leonard Wanger and Josh Rosenbaum, all formerly involved with GameWorks. The company opened its first location in a former GameWorks earlier this year in Newport, Ky., just outside of Cincinnati. Look forward to a full story on the company in the December issue of RePlay.
Skidmore’s Holiday Bowl, dubbed as “Albuquerque’s premier entertainment center,” has recently remodeled and expanded their facility, according to KRQE. The business, which has bowling, an arcade, as well as a full-service restaurant and bar, added a patio where they’ve begun to host live entertainment. They’ve also expanded the menu, which now features ABQ BBQ and other New Mexico favorites. The Timezone facility in Innaloo, Perth, Australia, recently got an upgrade after 30 years of delivering family fun to the community. The company said this freshly-renovated venue reopened Sept. 28. Virtuix installed their Omni Arena attraction at Jake’s Unlimited in February and recently shared an update on how well the product is doing at the 90,000-sq.-ft. Phoenix entertainment center. Bryan Maxwell, president of Jake’s Brands and general manager of Jake’s Unlimited, said since adding Omni Arena to their attraction mix, they’ve increased their guests’ average spend per visit by $7. “There’s nothing like it,” Maxwell said of the attraction. “There’s no other VR you can actually move around in, and there are so many benefits to it. Members of the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Game Committee recently visited Sega Amusements’ partner office Play It Amusements and FEC locations in Chicago. According to Sega, the delegation hopes to discover the benefits of ticket redemption and its value in family entertainment locations. Currently, ticket redemption is illegal in Korea. The goal is to research the possibility of opening ticket redemption locations in the country.
