AMOA Virginia Annual Meeting

By Casey Minter on June 1, 2016 INSTANT REPLAY

Last Wednesday (05/25) around 15 operators from Virginia met at the Holiday Inn in Charlottesville for the AMOV’s annual meeting. The group discussed the future of their state association, strategies for increasing membership and elected new officers for two-year terms.

“As far as the agenda of this year, we’re really just trying to get ready for our annual membership drive for 2017,” said Jeff Gregson, AMOV’s main contact. “Hopefully some of our distributor friends will be helpful and find some potential new members from their customer base.”

Attendees of the meeting, left to right: John Newberry, Charles Rowland II, Bruce Duncan, Gaines Butler and Andy Dunford.

The group elected Bruce Duncan (Future Targets Inc., Charlottesville, Va.) as their new president; Charles Rowland (Games People Play, Richmond, Va.) was re-elected treasurer and Dan Switzer (State Amusement, Roanoke, Va.) was elected in absentia VP.

Gaines Butler, AMOA president, attended the event and spoke to the operators about the AMOA’s national efforts to pursue many of the same issues. The group then discussed the possibility of holding two meetings per year, the annual meeting and another to discuss legislative issues that are important to Virginia operators.

Gregson said AMOV is looking into charitable bingo and how some games from their membership’s industry can be adapted to that format.

“We want to expand the menu of games that are available above and beyond regular bingo,” Gregson said. “We’re looking into other types of games operators could use for charity, and some of those may involve legislative approval.”

Gregson also believes that daily fantasy sports betting (think DraftKings and FanDuel), which recently was legitimized in Virginia, could become a potential source of income for operators as well.

Look for continued coverage of the multiple state association meet-ups that will happen this summer from Instant RePlay and in our summer magazines.
