Illinois Bowling Center Closes

Only one bowling alley remains in Kankakee, Ill., after Victory Lanes Bowling and Entertainment Center closed on Aug. 30, according to the Daily Journal.

Owner Lance Murray, who has had the business for 20 years, previously made a statement on Victory Lane’s Facebook page: “It is with regret that we announce the closing of Victory Lanes at the end of business Friday, Aug. 30. After 20 years we have to close our doors due to high overhead and lack of support. We would like to thank those few who have remained loyal to us till the bitter end.”

About a year ago, the 17,000-sq.-ft. facility with its 16 lanes was put up for sale, and they’re going to continue seeking a buyer. Co-owner Anne Roman said expenses simply outpaced revenues as license fees continued to increase.

“We’ve been taxed to death,” she said. “This is heart wrenching to us (and) devastating to Lance. We finally decided that enough is enough.”

Victory Lanes was originally opened in 1960 by Harry Dandelles as Dandelles Lanes. Over the years, it also operated as Prough Bowl, Leisure Lanes and Tri-City Lanes.
