Timezone NZ is hosting a Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5Dx (WMMT) contest, hoping to drum up excitement for their upcoming Timezone Finals tourney on May 19. The two winners of the finals, to be held in Auckland, will go head-to-head the following day in the WMMT World Qualifier Final, with the eventual winner having the rights to the title of New Zealand WMMT champ!
The winner also walks away with an invitation to compete and represent the country in Japan, at the World Finals for the game in mid-July. The arcade racing series enjoys a cult-like adoration from fans worldwide, with an especially popular scene in Japan. WMMT was designed by Bandai Namco and released in 2004, and pulls inspiration from a 1920’s Japanese manga, as well as the entire culture of street racing in the country.
“This first ever Timezone National Championship is a great way to acknowledge the level of passion, determination and skill these players have and gives them a chance to prepare for the World Qualifier round,” says Timezone NZ CEO Gary Walker.
