AMOA’s 2019 State Council meeting, held at the Hyatt Regency, San Antonio, Texas, from Feb. 7-9, attracted more than 60 attendees from across the country. Included among the attendees were 26 state association leaders as well as invited representatives from some of the leading manufacturers and suppliers.
“It was very successful,” said AMOA Exec VP Lori Schneider. “I would say it’s probably more of the successful ones we’ve had in recent years. There was a lot of great information shared and a lot of great discussion with members.”
In addition to the presentation of state reports and roundtable discussion, highlighting this year’s meeting was guest speaker Paul T. Jenson, a managing partner of the Chicago office of the law firm Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. Jenson’s presentation marked the first time the event featured an outside guest speaker. An expert in gaming law, Jenson provided an overview of the gaming landscape in 2019 that included legislation across the country that dealt with video terminals, sports betting, the mechanics of licensing and other issues that take place once a state passes gaming legislation.
Another highlight was a renewed effort to work with coin-op professionals in states without their own association, such as North Carolina. The idea, explainedSchneider, is to offer support in order to establish associations in those states.
